Dr. Weisinger's paper discusses changing candidate needs, training concerns and experiences, focusing on the experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist in analytic training, while including the broader developmental process inherent in becoming and being an analyst. Through illustrations of one candidate’s experience, the discussion will explore permutations of the candidate-analyst experiences of the on-going oscillations between and within psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytic identities.

Deborah Weisinger, PsyD has a private practice in San Francisco in which she sees adults. . She has taught and supervised in local graduate training sites, and was Assistant Director of Counseling at CA College of the Arts. She has an interest in identity development, phase of life transitions and bereavement.

 

Course Objectives:
Participants will be able to
  1. describe candidates’ learning experiences in Psychoanalytic Training.
  2. explain clinical dynamics that may affect a recommendation to a patient for increased clinical contact and frequency.
  3. Discus the inherent role of developmental struggles, personally and professionally, as they arise throughout the lifespan.

Psychologists self-certify the number of hours they have completed on their renewal form (whether online or paper).
