Safety and Numbers

Safety and Numbers

By Zach Cowan, Chair, Board of Trustees

As you know, in light of recent concerns about security at 444 Natoma, the BOT has decided to hire a security guard through mid-December while a more sustainable and effective security plan is developed.

A number of members have asked why the BOT did not decide to keep a security guard for a longer period, given the status of the endowment and the success of the capital campaign.

Thank you for asking.

SFCP Business Meeting June 2013

SFCP Business Meeting June 2013

by Robin Deutsch, Ph.D.

The academic year seems to come and go in quite a flurry. We are at the end of our first year in our new building. Last year at the business meeting, we had raised half the amount of funds we needed and now we have brought our capital campaign to a successful conclusion. It seems such a short time ago that I was addressing this meeting as President-elect, about to be President and now I have completed the second of my three-year term. Within the past month, we held two graduations: one for our psychoanalytic candidates and the second, just last Saturday, for the graduates of our two adult psychoanalytic training programs. I’d like to bring you up to date on Management Team issues. The Management Team meets monthly to review and plan for the functioning of the Center. I’d like to highlight a few of this year’s decisions:

President’s Message

by Robin Deutsch, Ph.D.

It’s my pleasure to welcome SFCP members to the beginning of the academic year. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing summer.

SFCP was well represented at the recent IPA meeting in Prague. I’d like to offer my congratulations to SFCP members who presented at the recent IPA meetings in Prague. Reviewing the Congress pro-gram, the following members either presented, chaired or served as panelists at the meetings: Meryl Botkin, Abbot Bronstein, Francesco Castellet y Ballara, Robin Deutsch, Bill Glover, Jeanne Harase-movitch, Audrey Kavka, Tina Lapides, Mali Mann, Mitch Wilson, and Michael Windholz. Harvey Peskin won the IPA’s 2013 Hayman Prize for published work pertaining to traumatized children and adults with his paper, entitled “Man is a Wolf to Man”. I apologize if I have inadvertently left anyone off the list.

KIM BELFOR, M.F.T.
In March of 2013, I completed my Marriage and Family internship at the Marina Counseling Center. I have since been busy establishing and developing my private practice in San Francisco. I work with adults, adolescents and couples. My participation in the PPTP program has provided me the building blocks to work psychoanalytically, deepening my understanding of classical as well as contemporary psychoanalytic theory. As a result of completing the program, I feel supported and strengthened as a clinician, and I am very excited to continue my learning in the years to come. Beyond my clinical work, through my studies in the PPTP program I have developed collegial, friendship and supervisory relationships that add energy and meaning to my life.

ANAT BARKAI, M.F.T.I.
Throughout the two year program, pieces of theories which were passed to us by a variety of enthusiastic instructors, and pieces of rich samples of live cases which we tasted in the case conferences, were combined with valuable supervision, mentoring and personal treatment into a growing mosaic of analytical thoughts.

Every class, supervision, or treatment session enriched the range of personal and professional insights. Even though many of the small pieces of the mosaic are still missing, and even though a deep enriched view of the theories is still a rare and elusive experience, the analytic mosaic has become a permanent growing part of myself.
