A short time ago, the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis felt that it would be a good idea to introduce itself to the membership with brief biographies. It fell to me to be the first. I am an adult and child psychiatrist, one of the Community Members on the Board. In a way, I am a hybrid because I am an “almost analyst,” having finished all of my classes and a period of supervised control cases at the San Francisco Institute before veering away in the direction of research in about 1985.

Drs. Eileen Keller and Lee Rather were discussants for the Opera-on-the-Couch discussion of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman immediately following the November 3 performance at the San Francisco Opera. Their presentations led to a lively back and forth, which was moderated by Dr. Steve Goldberg, between the 80 or more participants.

Visiting Professor Week
November 10th through 17th, 2013

The program “A Day With Claudio Eizirik,” on November 16th, gathered a lively, enthusiastic crowd. Below are the remarks made by Beth Steinberg, Ph.D, in response to some of Dr. Eizirik’s ideas about the position of psychoanalysis in the world and
their relationship to changes at SFCP.

Facing the Challenges of the Interface with the Outside World in the Time of “Liquid Modernity”

Before turning the podium over to Catherine Mallouh, who will introduce Dr. Eizirik, I’d like to tell you what’s happening here at the Center, and I’d like to do so using some of Claudio’s own ideas to frame what I have to say.

On February 8, 2014, is David Rosenfeld from Buenos Aires presenting “Creation and Transformation of Body Image,” in which he will present several clinical vignettes, involving dreams and psychotic delusions, to work with body image representations. Jack Giuliani, Ph.D., will present a case and Susana Winkel, Ph.D., will be the discussant.
