Course Objectives:
Participants will be able to
  1. increase their ability to reflect on their internal responses to the subjects of race and racism.
  2. learn about the psychological conditions necessary in treatment that enable race to be addressed productively by clinician and patient.
  3. increase their understanding of how race can have multiple meanings in a dynamic treatment.
  4. learn about a range of psychodynamic understandings of racialized aggression in the therapeutic process.
  5. learn to recognize the presence of paranoid schizoid, or collapsed thinking in the consideration of race in psychodynamic treatments.
