The Coalition for Clinical Social Work is committed to psychodynamic thinking about the practice of social work across diverse settings. Our dedication to social justice is at the heart of our organization and informs all CCSW programs & education. We value the importance and power of community collaboration, clinical development and theoretically-informed practice. CCSW works to preserve the unique professional identity of social work and our capacity to practice meaningful clinical work with all client populations.

Consultation Groups

Elyse Miller, LCSW, Chair

The Coalition for Clinical Social Work (CCSW) offers a series of consultation groups aimed primarily toward social workers practicing in agency-based settings. The groups are offered free of charge to all social workers who are looking for a place to discuss the myriad issues related to client work, self-care, agency dynamics, and psychodynamic case formulation.

Now Accepting New Members

The consultation group will meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 6-7:30 PM from September to May. Group meeting dates are: September 26; October 24; November 28; January 23; February 27; March 27; April 24; May 22. Applicants must be able to attend all group sessions to be eligible for enrollment in the yearlong consultation group. Group will meet at San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (SFCP) located at 444 Natoma Street, San Francisco.

The group will be facilitated by a senior and junior social worker who are happy to share their experiences and expertise, and are committed to helping social workers develop their clinical skills so that they can not only survive but thrive in their practices.

Rick Nizzardini, LCSW, JD, is Clinical Counselor-Faculty at San Francisco State University's Counseling & Psychological Services Center. He teaches Human Sexuality at UC Berkeley's graduate School of Social Welfare and CSU-East Bay's Educational Psychology graduate program. Rick completed the two year Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program at SFCP and has a private practice in the Castro where he sees adult individuals and couples.

Tim Sasaki, LCSW, MPH is a bilingual behavioral health clinician at Mission Mental Health with the San Francisco Department of Public Health. In addition to providing therapy and case management services, he conducts training, consultation, and program planning services for gender affirming services within SFDPH. Tim has completed several years of psychoanalytic training through CCSW programming and will join the CCSW Steering Committee this fall.

The consultation group will meet on first and third Tuesday and of the month from 7:30-9pm at 2127 Ashby Ave Berkeley CA. The group will run from October through May and is limited to eight participants.
